Video Project
- How is art used in everyday life?
- How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
- How can an artist create works of art through combining, expanding, and sequencing?
- How are the characteristics and expressive features of art and design used to create art?
- Why do Artists Produce Preliminary Plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
Project Description
Fort his project, we had to make a documentary like video. At first, I don’t really know what to do, so I became partners with my partner and she came up with the idea to make the video on the United States. We had to include a stop motion, video footage, and flash animated titles. The footage had to include different camera angles and lighting.
Political Cartoon
Blackfish Trailer
First, we watched the documentary Blackfish so I got some background knowledge to use for my cartoon. Although, I had already had seen Blackfish, so I watched The Cove which is about dolphins being slaughtered in a cove in Japan. Both videos had a similar voice and message on how badly killer whales and dolphins are being treated. I learned how to draw a whale from a step by step print out helpful thing from the interwebs. My cartoon gets the message across, as long as you have a little bit of background information, because it makes the point that SeaWorld is not taking the blame nor putting the blame on their most profitable whale but the deceased victim of a frustrated whale.
Art can easily share information because personally, I look at art more than reading twenty page articles about a certain situation. Also, art can add a whole new dimension and view to the facts. This being said, the difference in creating art, especially for political cartoons, is 1. picking a standpoint and 2. getting the facts so you have something to go off of. Also, being a viewer of art, you can interpret the piece how you please. But, as the artist, you have to decide if you want to leave room for people to be able to take their own take on it or make a piece that just shows your opinion with no room to change.

Prehistoric Art
I started this project by watching the documentary Man Created Dog. It was about how wild wolves became camp wolves and then into man’s most beloved companion. Then, I drew a wolf. We used how-to-draw sheets of information and lines that are somewhat helpful. The picture I based mine off of only showed the final image which I actually found helpful. This was probably because the picture I drew was made up completely out of simple shapes put together. The six images above have been modified in Adobe Illustrator with image trace. Personally, I don’t see that much of difference in the said photos. However, I do believe that if I had used image trace with a different, possibly more colored in picture, that it would show more. I do feel like in the future that I could use image trace tool to make a significant difference on a picture.
Self Portrait
Teacher Creature
For this project, we had to morph teachers into creatures. In the beginning, we watched tutorials(images below) to learn how to do specific tings that would help us in the project. Then, we came up with ideas of what to do to the teacher. Finally, we just worked in Photoshop on changing teachers into things they are not.
For me, the most difficult thing in this project was matching the teachers skin color with their respective hero. I got through this by just messing with the controls mostly controlling hue/saturation, color balance, and exposure. My favorite part of this project was seeing how well teacher's heads could go onto an Avengers body. |
Photoshop Tutorials
I changed the girls hair from blonde to auburn.
I changed the eye color from blue to brown.
I changed Abraham Lincoln from black and white into color and only his outline.
I turned Miley Cyrus into a cracked and very tan person.
Landscapes:
Understanding Distance With Scale&Proportion
Through this project, I learned about scale and proportion and how you can make a picture complete. A picture consists of three main parts; foreground, middleground, and background. In the forground, you can see fine detail and it consists of vibrant colors. In the middleground, you can still see some detail but it's not as detailed nor as colorful. In the background you can see no detail and the color is generally not the vibrant. In Photoshop, the tools I most used were ctrl+t to resize images, magic wand(w) to cut things out, feathering tool which is under refine edge(ctrl+alt+r), and copy&paste. Finally, for saving documents off of Photoshop, I saved things as a Photoshop document if I needed to still work on the image. However, when I was done, I saved it as a JPEG, which condenses all the images, so I can upload and use them on the internet.
Name Project
This was our first project of which we got to go outside and take pictures of "letters" to create our name.
