El Proyecto de las Biografías
Me speaking as if I were José Fuster and talking about my life.

For this project, we picked a Hispanic or Latino person to study, wrote a short biography about the person as if we were the person (wrote it in first person), and created a piece of artwork in the style of him/her. I chose to do José Fuster who is a Cuban artist. Through this project, we learned how/when to use preterite and imperfect and got practice in on speaking the language. I enjoyed this project because it was an engaging way of learning grammar used in Spanish. Videoing myself speaking is not my favorite, but it allows me to see what I need to work on.

El Día de los Muertos
This project had about four parts to it. First, we wrote two Calaveras (middle left); one about a profession and the other about a certain person. I wrote my Calaveras about grave robbers and Bill Cosby. For the second part, we picked either the profession or person Calaveras to create a picture about (top picture). Then, we wrote a description about a relative or pet that has passed to go along with a picture (middle right) that we decorated and put on the alter. Finally, we exhibited all three parts at our exhibition at the Animas City Theater of which we documented our experience through pictures (slideshow above).
While writing both Calaveras and the description, I had to go through a lot of refinement to get my Spanish spot on. Sadly, I do not have documentary of my drafts but I can assure I had multiple refinements. Also, while writing it, I used word reference a lot to expand my vocabulary for my specific subjects.
Through this entire project, I learned a lot about Spanish culture. For example, something that I found really interesting was that the Mexicans don't think of death as a bad thing but rather spirits just passing on to the next world and they celebrate it. However, there are bad spirits. Also, I was enlightened on the whole fiesta experience during the exhibition which included: face painting, sugar skull decorating, and dancing.

El raro que soy
La reflección del proyecto For this project, we wrote to our pencils in Ensenada, Mexico. In our letter, we included words describing us and our family, Animas High, and other little things like that. Then, we created a typographic drawing with our Spanish letter sentences on it. While doing this project, I learned the difference when to use "es" or "tiene" in a describing sentence. I also learned a lot of adjective vocabulary to describe people. My art piece is beautiful work because my sentences are in a very organized fashion and I outlined it in Sharpie so it looks bold and official. If I were to try this project again, I think that I would try to put the words into the guitar differently. Probably put them all in horizontally. |
