Since my last post, I have been able to go back to Cuba where I treasured the culture and conducted casual interviews with my friend there. From that, I have been able to grasp a better understanding of what they want to see happen along with what they know is going to (probably) happen. Many people feel that the globalization is inevitable and they accept and want a lot of it. However, they realize that what will also come from it is the decrease in culture. Cuba is still stuck in the mid to late 1900s so the really do need to 'catch up' with most other places in the world in technology, relations, etc. Being able to hear many people's thoughts have got me thinking what I really want to convey in the video and presentation. That point is: yes, globalization is necessary, but to what extent is acceptable so that a countries culture is preserved?
I have written a long passage about my learnings from my trip which I plan on using in my speech. I also took a panorama of Old Havana, the super touristy part of the city, to show that there are no American industries yet and how poor the infrastructure is. I am going to change my video so that it is me narrating it and showing pictures and minimal words. Honestly, my biggest challenge right now is trying to personally get over culture shock, still, from my trip; but from that, harnessing those feelings to put into my presentation.
